IE Bug

Attention CareTracker (especially EHR) users  :

As you may be aware, in the last couple of months the Microsoft security updates KB2962872 and KB2976627 have resulted in performance issues for many websites accessed with Internet Explorer, including within the EMR portion of CareTracker – especially affecting eRx, Orders and progress notes. Originally, uninstalling these two updates restored normal functionality; however recently the issues have resurfaced and uninstalling these updates does not fix the problem.

Phasis Group has worked closely with the CareTracker development team, and earlier this week identified a potential fix – a ‘hotfix’ from Microsoft.  We’ve had a few providers trying it the last few days and so far so good, so we’re recommending to all our clients that they install it, at least those utilizing the EMR. While the primary issues have been in the EMR, they could present themselves anywhere consecutive ‘modal’ dialog boxes (windows that require you enter information before letting you back to the main window) are used. We will keep an eye out for any similar issues in the PM portion of CareTracker.

1) If you have already uninstalled and hidden those two security updates (KB2962872 & KB2976627) that caused the original performance issues, you should reinstall them, by going to Start>All Programs>Window Update>Restore Hidden Updates.

2) Download the Hot Fix from Microsoft – KB2991509 by clicking on the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2991509

3) Once the webpage appears, scroll down and click on the download for your version of Windows. E.g., if you have a 64-bit Windows 7 computer, you would choose the “Internet Explorer for Windows 7 SP1 (x64) download.

*If you’re not sure your Windows version, or if it’s 32-bit or 64-bit:

  1. Hold the Windows key and press the R key to open the Run box.
  2. Type msinfo32.exe, and then press Enter.
  3. In System Information, review the value for System Type.
    • For 32-bit editions of Windows, the System Type value is x86-based PC.
    • For 64-bit editions of Windows, the System Type value is x64-based PC.

4) After the hotfix is downloaded & installed, you’ll need to restart your computer.

Some of those who have installed this already report that they can now work through those EMR screens a bit faster than before the performance issues started.

If you run into any problems, please contact your IT support person for help, or contact the Phasis Group Support team via a CareTracker Todo, or at (303) 500-1884.
